DeFelsko Shims (SHIM-SET)

DeFelsko Shims simulate a coating over a substrate material or shape and allow the user to verify gage performance on a regular basis. Shims can also protect the probe from damage and unnecessary wear when placed over hot or abrasive surfaces. Conversely, soft or tacky coating films can be protected from depression through non-certified shim usage. All shims are labeled with both Imperial and Metric measurements. Dimensions for shims are 3 x 8 cm (1" x 3"). Shims come in a choice of certified or non-certified.

Certified Shims are an economical alternative to coated metal plates. Coating Thickness gages measure these shims when they are placed over smooth metal surfaces, like zero plates. These shims have a reduced accuracy of ±2 µm (±0.08 mil). Certified Shims may be purchased individually or as a set of 8.

Non-Certified Shims allow for quick operational checks on the instrument, which the operator can perform over metal to take practice measurements. Non-Certified shims can also be placed over uncoated metal substrates. These shims are not compatible with magnetic pull-off gages. Thicknesses for the non-certified set are 25 μm, 50 μm, 125 μm, 250 μm, and 500 μm.
