IBG has developed an Optical Reflection Probe designed to test reflective surfaces for imperfections. This probe can detect missing chrome areas, black dots, outbreaks, pores, cracks, and particles such as dirt. It is also capable of identifying material inclusions, including endogenous elements like a ceramic second phase or variations in additive density.
Utilizing microfiber technology and red LED light, the iORS probe is compatible by default with the eddyvisor C, eddyliner C, and eddyguard C crack detection instruments. IBG also offer a specially configured edition, the eddyguard O, which is specifically designed for optical testing.
The following applications have already been successfully dealt with:
- Black dots on either the face side and outer diameter of bearing rings
- Finding particles and dirt on steel rings / bandage that could not be tested by ECT due to internal stress signals after bending
- Outbreaks / missing material on a piston rod
- Black areas from insufficent grinding on centering flange
- Endogenous material inclusion on silicon nitride ceramic rollers
