The Waygate Technologies Krautkramer SPG 2 ultrasonic rail testing system, a Baker Hughes business product (formerly GE Inspection Technologies), is used to inspect railroad rails.
The SPG 2 testing system is equipped with 3 dual-element probes with angles set to 70° and -70° in one block and 0° in a second block. The probes can either be activated all at once or individually with the distribution box.
The two-probe blocks are designed to be suspended in double gimbals to follow the contour of the rail. They can be raised by means of a Bowden wires. The rollers are designed to enable both rolling on rails as well as on the ground.
The SPG 2 can be utilized with various portable ultrasonic flaw detection instruments, such as the USM 35X.
